Join us for an Alter Experiences campout at Paso Picasho campground. We host several events throughout the year and we'll keep you posted on our next campout. The Paso Picasho campground is one of the most beautiful parks in the backcountry and offer some of the best hiking in the area.

At an elevation of 5,000 feet, Paso Picacho is the trail head for numerous hiking trails including the 2 mile hike up Stonewall Peak (elevation 5,700 feet), and the 3.5 mile hike up Cuyamaca Peak (elevation 6,512 feet). Both offer breathtaking views of the deserts to the east, the coast to the west, and Lake Cuyamaca at the bottom.

The four main trails that leave the campground include

  • Azalea Glen Loop Trail
  • Look Out Fire Road (to the top of Cuyamaca Peak)
  • Stonewall Peak Trail
  • Cold Stream Trail (to the Visitor Center)

Branching off of those main trails are ones that lead you south to the Green Valley Campground, east to the Los Vaqueros Group Horse Campground, and north to the Stonewall Mine.

Dogs are allowed but only permitted to hang around the campgrounds, picnic areas, and paved roads, and cannot be left unattended.

Earth Day Clean-up

In commemoration of Earth Day last Saturday, CRSPIA, the California State Parks Foundation & dozens of volunteers came together to do maintenance work on trails & various other clean-up projects in the Rancho Cuyamaca State Park. We filled two 15 yard roll offs full of waste, concrete & asphalt for recycling, as well as a 40 yard dumpster with 4 tons of post fire wood debris.
